How to compress a video
The picture shrinks only as much as the size needs, so it stays sharp. Your video is never uploaded: it is compressed in your browser, free, with no signup and no watermark.
- Step 1
Open your video
Drop a video on the editor or choose one from your files. Nothing is uploaded: it opens right here, even a long 4K video.
- Step 2
Choose a size or a quality
Press 10, 20, 25 or 50 MB, or type any size. Or switch to A quality and pick High, Medium or Small. The panel shows the new size before you export.
- Step 3
Export and download
The video is re-encoded on your device and saved as an MP4. If it comes out over the size, it tries again a little smaller, up to three times.
Why the picture can get smaller
A smaller file has fewer bits for every second of video. Spread too thin over a large picture, they make it blurry and blocky.
So when the bitrate would fall under 1.5 Mbps at 1080p, QuickVideoCutter.com steps the picture down to 720p, 480p or 360p, and tells you. A smaller picture with enough bits looks sharper.
Your video never leaves your device
Many online cutters upload your file first. QuickVideoCutter.com works inside your browser, so there is no upload to wait for and no copy of your video anywhere else.

How do I reduce the size of a video?
To reduce the size of a video, open it above, choose a size such as 20 MB, and export. QuickVideoCutter.com picks the bitrate and picture that fit, and shows the new size before you start.
Does compressing a video lower the quality?
Compressing a video re-encodes it, so some detail is lost, more for a smaller file. High keeps the original's bitrate up to 8 Mbps at 1080p, Medium uses half of that, and Small a quarter, at 720p at most.
Why does my video not fit 10 MB?
A video too long for its size does not fit even at 360p, the smallest picture. The panel then says the longest length that fits, 4:16 for 10 MB with sound, and can trim the video to it.
Can I compress only part of a video?
You can compress only part of a video: drag the handles on the timeline around the part you want before you export. A shorter part fits the same size with a sharper picture.
Is my video uploaded?
Your video is never uploaded. The file opens in your browser and is compressed on your device, by your browser's own video encoder. Nothing the page sends ever includes the file or its name.
